Abstract/Summary

Archaeological observation, investigation, recording, analysis and publication was carried out during the groundworks phase of the demolition and rebuilding of a 13m section of a boundary wall at All Saints Church, Orton, Northamptonshire, in response to the serving of a Dangerous Structures Notice. The wall was observed being demolished. Topsoil and graveyard soil were present overlying the geological natural, into which the wall had been cut. A pottery handle dating to the 13th – 15th century was present within the wall. Local ware pottery was also found in the graveyard soil, medieval and post-medieval in date.A small section of brick surface was revealed after the demolition of the wall. It is associated with outbuildings present on the adjacent plot of land southwest of the church.
