Abstract/Summary

MEPC Silverstone Park has been granted planning permission (WNS/2022/2270/MAF) for earthworks to redistribute existing spoil heap to create a new planted bund and two landscaped mounds together with associated green infrastructure (within Zone G of planning permission (S/2019/0443/EIA)) at Land East of Dadford Road and South of A43 Silverstone Bypass Silverstone Park, Silverstone NN12 8GX. In line with the National Planning Policy Framework, a condition was attached to the planning permission, requiring archaeological fieldwork followed by post-excavation analysis and reporting. Albion Archaeology was commissioned by the client to undertake this monitoring, in accordance with an approved written scheme of investigation (WSI). Following the commencement of works without archaeological supervision, the WSI was revised to include remedial works agreed with the North Northamptonshire Council Archaeological Adviser. The fieldwork was carried out in three visits between 19th March 2023 and 4th April 2024.Six 1.8x30m trenches were excavated adjacent to the area where work had been carried out prior to monitoring, and an excavation for a manhole was also monitored. These works revealed naturally occurring deposits, and features related to modern land-use, but no archaeological features were identified, and no artefacts were recovered.
