Title Northdale End: A New Sustainable Addition to Raunds- Archaeological Desk Based Assessment
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2009

Abstract/Summary

Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd was commissioned by Barwood Land and Estates Ltd. (Barwood) to carry out an archaeological desk-based assessment of the proposals for Northdale End, Raunds. The report has been written in accordance with the standards specified by the Institute of Field Archaeologists (1993). This report concludes that the potential for the presence of early prehistoric and early Saxon archaeology on the site is low; while the potential for evidence of later prehistoric. Roman and late Saxon activity is considered to be low to moderate. The potential for evidence of medieval and post-medieval settlement and cultivation is considered to be moderate to high, while that associated with post-medieval enclosure is high. Any such archaeological material encountered is considered to be of only local importance. This assessment shows that the development of Northdale End will not result in the loss of any Listed Buildings, Conservation Areas or Scheduled Monuments: neither is it likely to signifcantly affect the setting of these features. Further evaluation and consultation with the County Archaeologist and English Heritage will need to be undertaken to agree the final details of the mitigation strategy as the detailed design tor Northdale End progresses.
