SNN116670 - Heritage Impact Assessment: Old School House Moreton Pinkney

This heritage impact assessment considers the Old School House, Moreton Pinkney, Northamptonshire. The site is currently occupied by a semi detached property which is partially Grade II listed and has an adjacent single storey detached garage. A new garage to alter and add to the existing structure is proposed, to respect the listed property and Conservation Area in which the property is located. This assessment has been carried out at the earliest stage of planning in order to assist with the design of the proposed development to ensure it is sensitive to the historic character of the village and to identify any potential impacts of the development upon the archaeological and historical resource. Little archaeological fieldwork has been undertaken in Moreton Pinkney and the surrounding area, and as such little is known about heritage assets dating to the Prehistoric and Roman periods. Settlement from the Medieval period onwards developed into a prosperous farming community evidenced by monuments from this period, most notably ridge and furrow cropmarks which are present across the surrounding landscape. The built heritage assets of the village are of particular note and suggest a time of prosperity in the Post Medieval period, many of which survive today and are Grade II Listed.Historic mapping shows little change to the Old School House and surrounding village layout. Several alterations and extensions to the property itself have been identified and theproposed development is set back from the road on the current garage footprint. Groundworks for the development are unlikely to encounter significant buried archaeological deposits and will not affect the listed part of the property.
