Author/Originator | Isabella Carli |
Date/Year | 2020 |
Abstract/Summary
Magnitude Surveys was commissioned to assess the subsurface archaeological potential of a c.11.6ha area of land at EC9 Daventry South East Gateway, Northamptonshire. Overgrown vegetation prevented survey over a c.0.9ha area of land. A fluxgate gradiometer survey was successfully completed across the remaining survey area. No anomalies have been identified that can be confidently interpreted as archaeological in origin. Historical agricultural activity has been recorded in the form of ridge and furrow cultivation and a network of ceramic field drains. These run on a variety of orientations and patterns which is suggestive of an intensive and prolonged regime of land management of the area. Possible burning activities have been identified which may relate to kilns or other high-temperature processes, or alternatively to modern or agricultural activities. Anomalies of undetermined origin have also been recorded.
