Title | Land at Stoke Road Ashton Northamptonshire: Archaeological Evaluation and Earthwork Survey |

Abstract/Summary
On 21st November 2024, an archaeological evaluation and earthworks survey was undertaken by Archaeology Warwickshire on land at Stoke Road, Ashton, Northamptonshire ahead of redevelopment of the site for two residential dwellings, with associated vehicle access, and landscaping, on behalf of ARH Developments. The evaluation trenches recorded undated ridge and furrow on a north-south alignment and, whilst no dating material was recovered, map evidence from 1768 suggests a post-medieval date. The earthworks survey was undertaken in two transects across the site; however, as the Site had been previously levelled this did not yield a profile of the ridge and furrow which was no longer visible.Although undated it seems plausible that the ridge and furrow is of post-medieval date. A map of 1768 indicates that to the south of the site ridge and furrow has replaced the deer park known to have been extended by Henry VIII in 1531, as such it seems likely that the ridge and furrow on the site relates to this mapped 18th century ridge and furrow
