Title | Rainsbrook Solar Farm, North Northamptonshire: Geophysical Survey |
Author/Originator | Alistair Webb, Ross Bishop |
Date/Year | 2022 |
Abstract/Summary
Headland Archaeology (UK) Ltd was commissioned by Voltalia UK Ltd (the Client), to undertake a geophysical (magnetometer) survey, covering approximately 23 hectares, on land off Rugby Road, Kilsby, North Northamptonshire where it is proposed to construct a 13mW solar farm (Rainsbrook Solar Farm). This geophysical survey report will be submitted, supplemented by the previously submitted Heritage Statement (Pegasus Group), in support of the planning application for the future development of the land and may also inform future archaeological strategy at the site, if required. The survey has identified anomalies consistent with modern activity and agricultural usage of the proposed development area (PDA) over the past 140 years as indicated on historic mapping. The most numerous anomalies are due to agricultural activity, predominantly ridge and furrow cultivation and land drainage. Two former ponds have also been identified in the data.No anomalies of possible or probable archaeological origin have been recorded by the survey, therefore, based on the geophysical survey results the archaeological potential of the PDA is assessed as very low. This conclusion supports the findings of the Heritage Statement.
