Abstract/Summary
The Forestry Commission secured funding from the Nature for Climate Fund (NCF) to deliver the three-year National Historic Environment Datasets for Woodland Creation Project from March 2022 – March 2025. As part of this project, West Northamptonshire Council were awarded funding for the 2024/25 financial year to undertake Project K: Creating SHINE (Selected Heritage Inventory for Natural England) data for Low Sensitivity Areas in England across the former county of Northamptonshire (now the Unitary Authorities of West Northamptonshire and North Northamptonshire). A total of 3286 SHINE records were reviewed and 427 new SHINE records were created over the course of the project. In addition, over 9600 Monument records were reviewed against SHINE Workflow Guidance for potential inclusion in the dataset. Based on these headline figures, estimated day rates for the number of records analysed or created can be calculated; 93 Monument records and 23 existing SHINE records were reviewed and four SHINE records were created each day. The completion of Project K has enabled Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record to review and update over half of its existing SHINE dataset. It has not only ensured that there is a high degree of confidence in the quality of the Northamptonshire SHINE dataset within the areas that potential woodland proposers are likely to be assessing but also for other services or applicants utilising the Historic Environment Farm Environment Record (HEFER) portal.
