Abstract/Summary

Church Leys Barn is not a listed structure and is not recorded by the historic environment record but does have a degree of architectural and historic interest, at a local level. The Site is within the Wilbarston Conservation Area. The barn is a single storey building of mid to late 19th century date, with an open fronted cart shed and attached storage barn. This type of barn is a common feature in the East Midlands. Planning permission has been granted by North Northamptonshire District Council in relation to the conversion of the barn to provide a single storey dwelling (planning reference: NK/2024/0577). The proposed development comprises the replacement of the roof covering, new rainwater goods and the insertion of new doors, windows and glazed screens to the existing openings to the south elevation. The north, east and west elevations are to remain unaltered. Heritage Archaeology Ltd was appointed by McCormack Architects to provide a Level 2 Historic Building Record for the barn prior to any works being undertaken on the site in line with condition 9 of the planning permission.
