Abstract/Summary

In 2000, an Anglo-Saxon inhumation was discovered in the rear garden of 34 Marshall's Road, Raunds. It was accompanied by pottery, a knife and a buckle. An analysis of the pottery suggested a early 7th century date, although a date as early as the 5h century could not be discounted. The aim of the Time Team investigation was to discover whether this burial was part of an early-middle Anglo-Saxon cemetery. This report provides a summary of the earthworks and landscape analysis undertaken by the author at 34 Marshall’s Road, Raunds during the Time Team excavations in Series 10 (19th-21st March 2002) The techniques employed by the Time Team included documentary research, geophysical survey, excavation and earthwork analysis, as well as a number of other specialist activities. These are reported on elsewhere (Time Team archives)
