Abstract/Summary

Pre-Construct Archaeology was commissioned by Abrams Archaeology Ltd on behalf of their client Sub Blue Limited to undertake a programme of observation, investigation and recording at Paddock Lodge, Tantree Way, Brixworth, Northamptonshire. The investigations were required to investigate and record any archaeological remains revealed during the construction of a new dwelling including a replacement double garage along with associated infrastructure, access road and landscaping for which planning consent has been approved by Daventry District Council. The archaeological programme of observation, investigation and recording at Paddock Lodge revealed no features or deposits of potential archaeological interest. In places such as the extant driveway it was clear that all deposits down to the natural substrate had been previously truncated and as such any features that might have been present would have been removed. That said, in the areas where insitu deposits were revealed there was no evidence of occupation or fringe settlement activities for which there was considered potential. The depth of the highly mixed topsoil was interpreted as likely to be the result of historic ploughing and agricultural land management of the site, and it is believed that the area of investigation has never been subjected to human interaction beyond fringe settlement agriculture.
