Abstract/Summary

Between January and February 2025, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an Archaeological Observation, Investigation, Recording, Analysis & Publication during groundworks associated with the installation of a new water pipeline by directional drilling at land at Earls Barton Road, Mears Ashby, Northamptonshire. The groundworks consisted of the excavation of 8no. aunch/reception pits for directional drilling related to the installation of the new water main. The only features identified, located in Test pits 2, 3 and 4, likely relate to the undated quarrying activity, as recorded in the Northamptonshire HER, that also correlate with a 90 x 65m rectangular cropmark and a corresponding depression visible on Lidar survey. No further features or deposits of archaeological interest were observed and no artefactual material pre-dating the modern period was recovered.
