| Title | Highcroft House, 157 Watling Street West, Towcester, Northamptonshire: Tree-ring Dating of Oak Timbers |
| Author/Originator | Martin Bridge and Cathy Tyers |
| Date/Year | 2023 |
Abstract/Summary
Of the eight samples taken from roof timbers and a second-floor girding beam, two samples had too few rings for ring-width dendrochronology and were not measured, two had fewer than 50 rings and were not dated, and one showed abrupt growth-rate changes and remains undated. The remaining three samples formed a 149-year site sequence dated to the period AD 1565–1713. One sample retained complete sapwood and was derived from a tree felled in the winter of AD 1713/4. The other two dated timbers appear likely to have been felled at the same time.
