SNN117164 - Church Of St Peter and St Paul, Harrington, Northamptonshire, NN6 9NX: Summary Report on Archaeological Watching Brief During Groundworks

Watching brief at the Church of St Peter and St Paul, Church Lane, Harrington during surface and foul water drainage works and the installation of the trench arch drain. The natural geology was encountered only in the deepest part of Trench 1, at a depth greater than 1.30m BPGL. This was overlain by phases of cemetery soil horizons. Human remains, including articulated burials, were present within both cemetery deposits. Three articulated burials were identified in Trench 1 and two in Trench 2, while disarticulated and generally fragmented human bone was recovered from Trenches 1–3. No significant artefacts were associated with the cemetery deposits or burials; post-medieval and modern material was confined to the topsoil and made-ground layers.
