Abstract/Summary
Wessex Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation at 102 Nene View, Irthlingborough, on behalf of T West Developments Ltd to meet planning requirements associated with application NE/21/01505/FUL. Four evaluation trenches were excavated across the 0.18 ha development area, providing a 5% sample. No archaeological features or deposits were identified. Three trenches reached natural geology, which was overlain by substantial modern made-ground deposits containing demolition and construction debris. These deposits were interpreted as relating to the former Express Hall that previously occupied the site. The evaluation achieved its aims as far as possible, but because no archaeological remains were encountered, the archaeological potential of the site could only be assessed to a limited extent. No other aims or objectives could be met due to the lack of encountered remains.
