Author/Originator
Date/Year 1995

Abstract/Summary

{1} - An archaeological evaluation was commissioned in May 1995 by the Northamptonshire County Council, in connection with proposed disabled access arrangements along the south aisle of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Northampton. Scope of work involved cleaning and recording the ground surface after contractor's removal of an existing tarmacadam path, together with archaeological excavation and recording of a new feeder drain trench and a builder's test pit. Other than the foundations of the south aisle, no archaeological features of certain pre-19th century date were exposed. Area has been cut by graves and finds indicate that the surface beneath the tarmac is of 19th century date.
