Abstract/Summary
Two possible previously identfied archaeological sites in the pipeline corridor were investigated. One site along the route of the pipeline was evaluated by trial trenching for the presence or absence of a possible ring-ditch suspected from aerial survey. This site produced no archaeological features or finds from any period. The other site, a scatter of limestone building fragments associated with a wide area of charcoal-stained topsoil, was evaluated and excavated. There were no archaeological features directly associated with the charcoal area, but the limestone scatter was derived from a plough-damaged sandstone and limestone structure. The structure is interpreted as a drainage feature. There was no reliable dating evidence from the structure itself which is probably of eighteenth century date.
