Description

Tunnel entrance. C.1838. Limestone ashlar. Parabolic arch with moulded stone surround and machiolated cornice. Walls extending back on either side framing tunnel entrance, brick with stone coping. Kilsby tunnel, 2,194 metres long, part of the London to Birmingham railway, was built in 1833-1838 under the supervision of Robert Stephenson.
