Description
Stables and ancillary offices. Probably early/mid C18 for Powys family. Modified mid/late C19. Limestone ashlar with stone slate roofs. U-shaped plan. 2 storeys. Elevation to courtyard of 5-window range. Centre 3 bays are flanked by wings breaking forward with 2-window range to end of each wing. Central carriage arch with keyblock. Casement windows with glazing bars, reducing at first floor, have gauged stone heads. Centre range has triangular pediment. Moulded cornice, plain parapet and hipped roof with ashlar ridge stacks. Central, octagonal, wooden cupola with arched openings, cornice dome and weathervane. Elevation to left and right of similar 5-window ranges. Left elevation has stone mullion and transom windows with segmental heads, probably remodelled C19. Rear elevation of 7 bays. Triple arcade to centre with flanking arches forming entrances to coach-houses. Pediment over. C19 quadrant wall attached to left of courtyard elevation links to north-west wing of Lilford Hall (q.v.). C19 walls also attached to right. Interior mainly C19 and C20. Stables form a pair with Stables and attached walls approximately 20 metres north-east of Lilford Hall (q.v.).
