Description

Northants 185/a Earthworks of manor house survive in fragmentary form, west of All Saints church. Possibly a late medieval foundation, held by the Montagu family in 1548. Tenanted in 1716, the date of the surviving contemporary plan by Elizabeth Creed. {AM7 1977} Northants 185/b Remains of garden survive in fragmentary form. Garden layout is of exceptional interest, in that a contemporary plan of early C18 date shows the arrangement which can still be traced. Main garden (to south) remains in form it took in 1716, the date of the plan by Elizabeth Creed. To the north are further remains within an area enclosed by a ditch which appears to overlie ridge and furrow. Three large ponds lie on western boundary. {AM7 1977}
