Description
These 2 houses form 1 architectural unit, but oddly No 6 has a heavy eaves cornice, No 4 has not. Early C18. 2 storyes in ashlar with steep stone slate roofs with raised verge at centre and both ends. Heavy stone chimney at centre and west end, 6 pedimented dormers in all, 2 triangular and centre segmental on both. Both have 5 windows to 1st floor and in addition there is a blind window in the centre. A continuous band links the cills. The windows are early sash with heavy glazing bars, narrow m ulded cases, plain reveals, stone lintels with triple keystones. 4 and above these the only remains of a platband. No 4 also has a good C19 shop front. The entire ground floor of No 6 is taken up by a late shop. Central doorway to passage between the houses, heavy rusticated doorcase with cornice, semi-circular headed doorway with panelled door and panelled inset above. All the listed buildings in Market Place form a group.
