Summary
Two early 18th century houses, one with a 19th century shop front. These two houses form one architectural unit, but oddly No 6 has a heavy eaves cornice, No 4 has not. Two storeys in ashlar with steep stone slate roofs with raised verge at centre and both ends. Heavy stone chimney at centre and west end. Six pedimented dormers in all, two triangular and centre segmental on both. Both have five windows to 1st floor and in addition there is a blind window in the centre. A continuous band links the cills. The windows are early sash with heavy glazing bars, narrow moulded cases, plain reveals, stone lintels with triple keystones. Two more early windows survive complete at the west end of the ground floor of No 4 and above these the only remains of a platband. No 4 also has a good 19th century shop front. The entire ground floor of No 6 is taken up by a late shop. Central doorway to passage between the houses, heavy rusticated doorcase with cornice, semi-circular headed doorway with panelled door and panelled inset above.
