Description
Cottage. Dated 1863. Coursed squared ironstone, tile roof, stone end and ridge stacks. 2-unit plan. 2 storeys and attic; 3-window range. C20 plank door in doorway with 4-centred arch, hood mould and carved spandrels. 3-light mullion window to left of door, a similar 2-light window to right both with hood moulds. 4-centred chamfered arch door to right. Doors and windows have stone relieving arches. Over front door datestone with hood mould inscribed HF/D/1863. 2-light mullion windows to first floor. Stone coped gables with kneelers. Initials on datestone are those of Sir Henry Dryden - 'The Antiquary' - and his wife Frances. This cottage is an interesting example of the extensive rebuilding of estate housing undertaken by Sir Henry Dryden. Included for group value.
