Cottage. Dated 1863. Coursed squared ironstone, tile roof, stone end and ridge stacks. This cottage is an interesting example of the extensive rebuilding of estate housing undertaken by Sir Henry Dryden.

Full Description

{1} Cottage. Dated 1863. Coursed squared ironstone, tile roof, stone end and ridge stacks. 2-unit plan. 2 storeys and attic; 3-window range. C20 plank door in doorway with 4-centred arch, hood mould and carved spandrels. 3-light mullion window to left of door, a similar 2-light window to right both with hood moulds. 4-centred chamfered arch door to right. Doors and windows have stone relieving arches. Over front door datestone with hood mould inscribed HF/D/1863. 2-light mullion windows to first floor. Stone coped gables with kneelers. Initials on datestone are those of Sir Henry Dryden - 'The Antiquary' - and his wife Frances. This cottage is an interesting example of the extensive rebuilding of estate housing undertaken by Sir Henry Dryden. Included for group value.
