Description
Farmhouse. Early to mid-C17, altered C19 and C20. Coursed limestone rubble; plain tiled gable-end roof: massive stone ridge stack with six diagonally-set brick flues. 2 storeys and attic. Originally a 3-unit, baffle-entry plan, the original entry now blocked. Elevation facing farmyard (N): 5 window range, the central 1st floor window blocked with 2 tripartite hornless sash windows and 2 4-paned horned sash windows: ground floor with 2 tripartite sash windows (as above) and 2 C20 2-light casement windows. All the sashes have C20 external secondary glazing. Access to the house now by way of C19 single-storeyed extension to the left. Rear (S.garden) elevation: central panelled door in C20 porch. 3 2-light casement windows and one blocked door.1st floor: 3 light casement windows, one single-light window and a tiny single-light window that may be the original stair light. All windows have timber lintels. Interior: several axial ceiling beams, chamfered, and some with unusual spur shaped stops. To the north of the chimney breast at 1st floor level is a panelled closet approached from either side through chamfered and stopped door surrounds: 2 panelled doors with H and H-L hinges. It is likely that the original fireplaces survive concealed behind the modern fireplaces.
