Listed Building: Church of All Saints (1229379)

Church. C12 to C14 and C17. Regular coursed and squared coursed lias and limestone, with ashlar dressings and lead roof. Aisled nave, chancel and west tower. Chancel: South elevation of one-window range of 2-light square-headed window with Perpendicular tracery. One single-light low side window to left. North elevation has C19 vestry projection with 2- and 3-light square-headed windows, one above the other. 3-light Perpendicular east window. South aisle of 2-window range, that to left is single-light with ogee head, that to right is 3-light with C19 tracery. Similar east window; west window single-light with ogee head. Lean-to roof with plain parapets. South porch between windows has semi-circular head to outer opening, gabled roof with 4-sided sundial at apex; dated tablet 1682 above door opening. North aisle of 2-window range of single height ogee-headed windows with north door between; similar west window. Lean-to roof with plain parapet. Clerestory of 4-window range of C14 three-light windows with 4-centred arches. Shallow gabled roof with brick and stone parapets. West tower of 3 stages with angle buttresses at corners. 2-light square-headed window in south face of second stage. 2-light bell-chamber openings in third stage have C19 tracery. Castellated ashlar parapet above. Interior: Double-chamfered chancel arch restored C19. 3-bay nave arcade of double-chamfered arches with octagonal piers. Triple-chamfered tower arch. Perpendicular nave roof retains some original timbers and has angel corbels. Aisle roofs also contain some original timbers. Piscinas to south walls of chancel and south aisle. Stained glass: South-aisle east window by Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin; the adjacent south aisle window, east window of chancel, and west window of tower all have C19 stained glass. Monuments: Various C19 marble tablets, some with Gothic surrounds, to north and south walls, commemorate the Lowett and Lovell, Gulliver and Heygate families. C12 square font, has scenes on the sides depicting the nativity, baptism of Christ, entry into Jerusalem, and Christ in glory between the eagle of St. John and the angel of St. Matthew.
