Description

{1} Watching brief undertaken during groundworks for the conversion of the stables to tea rooms and the provision ofassociated services. Archaeological observation was maintained during the excavation of seven groundwork building trenches. Natural clay and bedrock were exposed in places, but significant parts of the excavation did not extend below made ground, or were limited to areas which had already been disturbed by modern services within the area of the watching brief. Two trenches exposed archaeological deposits, and finds of post-medieval date were recovered from these features, as well as from contexts previously disturbed by modern services.
