Abstract/Summary
In March and April 2000 the Oxford Archaeological Unit undertook a watching brief at Canons Ashby House, Northamptonshire during the excavation of 7 groundwork building trenches by building contractor wiiliam Sapcote and Sons Ltd. Natural clay and bedrock were exposed in places, but significant parts of the excavation did not extend below made ground, or were limited to areas which had already been disturbed by modern services within the area of the watching brief. Two trenches exposed archaeological deposits, and finds of post-medieval date were recovered from these features, as well as from contexts previously disturbed by modern services.
