Description
Survey type: Fluxgate gradiometer. Geophysical survey was attempted along several sections of the pipeline route but results were disappointing. An existing pipeline ran along the easement which was provided with an electrical corrosion protection system. This much reduced the effectiveness of the survey in general. An attempted survey at SK 9899 0038 was abandoned [this is the only part of the survey in Northants]. A roughly circular anomaly, located at TL 0237 9998, was subsequently trial trenched revealing a feature containing a sherd of Roman pottery (see UID). Anomalies detected between TF 057 017 and TF 065 019 were subsequently shown to be of natural origin, whilst the trenching of 2 linear anomalies between TF 087 010 and TF 089 004 found no corresponding sub-soil features.
