Abstract/Summary
Between April and September of 1997 a field evaluation was conducted by Cambridgeshire County Council Archaeological Field unit (AFU) in advance of construction of a replacement water trunk main between Duddington in Northamptonshire and Chesterton, to the west of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. The work was commissioned by Anglian Water Services Ltd. and was carried out in accordance with a design brief provided by Cambridgeshire County Archaeology Office and Northamptonshire Heritage. The pipeline route was 20.7km long and the easement was in general 30m wide. All evaluation and excavation undertaken was confined within this working width, and no work took place outside the fenced pipeline easement. Following an archaeological desktop assessment nine areas along the route were selected as having high archaeological potential, two lay in Northamptonshire.
