Description

Two cottages adjacent to 19 Orchard lane have been uninhabited since at least 1945. They were built separately, probably in the 19th century. Desk-based assessment and building recording of the cottages cannot establish a more exact date for the construction of either. The cottages provided only the basic accommodation, without any services, gas, electricity or water. In their final phase the cottages were joined together. The roof, the majority of the woodwork and the fittings derive from this last period when both cottages were treated as one dwelling. No demonstrably early fittings survive.
