Description

{1} When the area south of Dale's Lodge was developed for housing in 1964-5, pits containing late Iron Age pottery, as well as quantities of Roman pottery were found in the foundations. Only part of a large site was recorded. {3} Ad hoc trial trenches were excavated by Gwen Brown at the Drury Estate in 1965. She excavated a total of five 5ft wide trial strips to a depth of 2ft 6". A series of large rubbish pits were found containing domestic debris and a smaller pit contained most of an entire vessel. No more was excavated due to lack of manpower.
