Monument record 3774/0/1 - Iron Age/Romano-British settlement, south of Dale's Lodge

Summary
A Roman coin was found in 1922 and during housing development in in 1964-5 pits containing late Iron Age and Roman pottery were identified. Close by, Roman and medieval pottery were found during the same development. Only part of a large site was recorded. Some medieval pottery was also found

Full Description
{1} A Roman coin was found in the area in 1922, but only when the area was developed for housing in 1964–5 were other features noted. Pits containing late Iron Age pottery as well as quantities of Roman pottery were then discovered in the foundations. Only part of a large site was recorded. Some medieval pottery was also found.
{2} SP 886 765: Barton Seagrave, Polewell Lane, Iron Age rubbish pits and Roman material found 1965, part of a larger site destroyed by a housing estates.
SP 8854 7635: Barton Seagrave, Roman and Medieval pottery observed by R Jenkins in house foundations on Drury Estate near Dale's Lodge, Summer 1964.
{4} SP 8864 7642: A coin of Julia Domna was found in 1922. Now in Westfield (Kettering) Museum, accession number 1960.27/9.
{5} The area of these finds is now completely covered by new housing estate. Some of the material from Mrs Brown's excavation is in Kettering Museum; Jenkins retains what he found.
