Description

Excavation north of the hedgeline was carried out in 1976 under reasonable soil and weather conditions. The southern half of Area 1 was excavated late in 1978 under difficult circumstances, as the boulder clay subsoil was very sticky and often waterlogged. The area to the west of Structure 2 was badly rutted and any postholes or shallow features are unlikely to have survived.
