Description

{1} A programme of geophysical investigation comprising a resistivity survey was carried out to attempt to aid the mapping of the former formal gardens at Canons Ashby in Northamptonshire as created by Henry Dryden in the early 18th century and depicted on a plan of 1902. The survey has demonstrated that despite the ephemeral nature of the deposits to be investigated, several anomalies were detected which are likely to correlate with former flower beds as shown on the 1902 plan. Additional anomalies were detected which do not appear to be associated with the plan of the formal gardens; however they may still be of archaeological significance, and may relate to modifications of the original layout.
