Description

{1} In January 2010, Northamptonshire Archaeology was commissioned by David Hickie Associates on behalf of the Naseby Battlefield Trust, to undertake trial trench evaluation on land to the east of Sibbertoft Road, Naseby. The work was undertaken to inform a planning application for the construction of proposed new Battlefield Visitor Centre. The evaluation comprised eight trenches 2m wide and from 15m to 30m long. Metal detecting was also routinely employed to scan the trenches and spoil. A relict stream bed was observed in two trenches. Earthwork remains of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation were present. A single sherd of Roman pottery was recovered from the subsoil. A post-medieval coin was recovered from the topsoil.
