Description

{1} Archaeological desk-based assessment of land east and west of Ashton Road, Roade. There are a few recorded prehistoric or Roman sites and finds in the vicinity and the plot of land lies just beyond the medieval core of the village. Map evidence suggests that the site lay within Roade’s open field system, until Inclosure in the early 19th century. The main part of the site was partly quarried in the late 19th century and two limekilns were present.
