ENN106100 - Hunsbury Hillfort, 2004 (Geophysical survey)

Geophysical survey of the ramparts the hillfort. Various sections have shown it consists of a two phase rampart. A series of thirty eight transects were laid out over the rampart at approximately 10 m intervals. The position of these transects were confined by local topography and the level of vegetation along some of the rampart. Readings were taken with a Geoscan FM 36 Fluxgate gradiometer, at a resolution of 1nT with readings taken at interval of between 1m and 5m along the transects, dependent on the local conditions, which were located using a Geodolite 506B total station. The top of the rampart was then scanned with the gradiometer and areas of high magnetic disturbance plotted, generally at 1.0m intervals, in reference to the transects.
