Description

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by ULAS, on behalf of George Wimpey East Midlands Ltd, on land at Turners Merry Go-round, Newport Pagnell Road, Wootton, Northampton. This addressed the conditions placed on planning permission by the planning authority of Northampton Borough Council Planning authority in advance of groundwork for the erection of private dwellings on the land. An archaeological desk-based assessment indicated that the development area lies in close proximity to archaeological sites of prehistoric, Iron Age and Roman date (Courtney, P ULAS Report 20003-204), therefore any groundwork on the site had potential to disturb areas of archaeological importance. A linear boundary ditch and adjacent pit was recorded. The watching brief was carried out by ULAS from the 6th, 8th, 9th, 10th of December 2004, 9th, 22nd, 24th of February, 18th of October, 18th of November , 2nd, 6th and 13th of December 2005. The site archive will be deposited with Northampton County Council using site code NPRW-2005. Information from OASIS Online Form.
