Description

{1} SLP Consulting on behalf of William Davis Homes commissioned Northamptonshire Archaeology to undertake archaeological mitigation work on the proposed development site on land off Booth Rise, Northampton (NGR SP7871064740). The works were required as mitigation following geophysical survey (Souterrain 2012) and trial trench evaluation (MetroMOLA 2012) in response to a planning application for residential development. The site was exacavated in two phases because of an active badger sett towards the south-eastern corner. The first phase comprised the excavation of a roughly L-shaped area which targeted the results from evaluation trenches Ts 7-14. Three further small excavation areas were investigated to target Ts 3,5 and 6. Two of these areas were immediately adjacent to the main area with which they were incorporated. NB The site was perforated by rows of regularly spaced pits deriving from the use of the land as a temporary tree nursery in the 1960s.
