Description

Site code: PALL14. An archaeological evaluation by trial trenching was carried out in advance of a residential development at the former Kingston's Farm, Lumber Lane, Paulerspury, Northamptonshire. The site lies close to the historic core of Paulersbury and medieval settlement earthworks have been observed to the north of Lumber Lane and southeast of Park Lane. Map evidence indicates that a farm was present in the northern half of the site from at least the 1830s. Evidence recorded during the current investigations would appear to suggest that prior to foundation of the farm, the site lay within the open fields associated with medieval settlement at Paulerspury. Remains of the recently demolished farm were identified in some of the trenches. Although no detailed research has been carried out on the development of the farmstead, it seems likely that the northern part originated in the the 18th or 19th century, on formerly arable land.
