Description

{1} In order to facilitate the determination of future minerals application by Pioneer Aggregates (UK) Ltd for sand extraction from land to the north-west of Bozeat a programme of archaeological evaluation was advised. Stage 1 desk-based assessment was completed by Northamptonshire Archaeology in May 1996. Stage 2 surveys were carried out by Northamptonshire Archaeology between July and November 1996. They comprised: 1. Fieldwalking of all arable fields 2. Detailed magnetometer surveys of cropmarked sites and significant concentrations of ceramic finds. 3. Reconnaissance magnetometer survey around the areas of interest as well as in non-arable fields. 4. Metal detecting survey of potentially Roman and Saxon sites. Anomalies picked up by reconniassance survey were re-surveyed in detail and proved negative within Field 5.
