Description

{1} A archaeological watching brief was undertaken by Northamptonshire Archaeology from 2008 until 2010 during groundworks and the earthmoving phase of the reconstitution of Bury Mount, a Norman earthwork motte within the former Roman town of Towcester (Lactodorum). At a number of locations around the motte archaeological observation was made of four geotechnical test pits and a single auger hole adjacent to the millstream prior to the construction of a footbridge support. Natural limestone was encountered at a depth of c.3m.
