Description

{1} Two 15m long trial trenches were excavated, with one subsequently extended. Post-medieval pits and ditches used for rubbish disposal were identified in both trenches and a heat affected brick wall may have been a building that burnt down in the 1738 Great Fire of wellingborough. A 10th-11th century feature was identified below the post-medieval activity. Archaeological deposits in the western half of the site were particularly shallow, with the eastern half demonstrating that sensitive remains were likely to be at some depth beneath a landscaping deposit.
