{5} Trial trench excavation was followed by archaeological observation. A small number of late Saxon and Saxo-Norman pottery sherds were found, as well as a single feature dating to this period. In the 12th and 13th century several drainage gullies and a ditch were excavated at the eastern end of the site, as well as a pit that contained evidence of crop processing and weeds associated with waste ground, roadsides cultivated fields. There was no activity on site in the later 13th and 14th centuries and in the mid-15th century activity was restricted to two small pits.
