Description

Between March and April 2021 KDK Archaeology Ltd undertook an Archaeological Evaluation at the Land east of A6 and roundabout at Bedford Road, Rushden, Northamptonshire as a condition of planning permission for the development of the site. A total of 30 trenches were excavated revealing a long history of agricultural activity taking place within the development area. Artefacts recovered from this investigation represented a large date range spanning from the mid-late Iron Age through to the Modern period. The features exposed on the site included 21 medieval Furrows, 40 Ditches/Irrigation Channels which possibly predate the medieval period, two gullies and 11 postholes/ small pits. In addition, a number of Victorian and modern land drains were observed throughout the site, many of which intercepted with earlier features on the site. Information from OASIS online form.
