ENN109939 - Hogg Lane, Charlton, 2021-2 (Observation)

The development consisted of the erection of two large, detached dwellings. The development groundworks took place in March 2021 and January 2022 and consisted of two areas surrounding the footprint of the dwellings. Area 1 involved 7 small penalty trenches, representing footing trenches that had been undertaken without archaeological monitoring. Area 2 consisted of a single trench which was to contain all services extending between the two houses to the existing road. This represented an investigation area of approximately 23.25m2. The results of the monitoring identified a solid, undisturbed geological sequence below the topsoil, which in some cases included building rubble laid down as part of this development after topsoil stripping.
