Description

site code: XNNWED20 SP 65595 60412 to SP 62233 60718 via SP 63809 61661 {2} Evaluation was carried out along the second phase of the proposed route of a new water pipeline. The earliest dateable features included three Roman enclosure ditches found at the eastern end of the evaluation. The small pottery assemblage retrieved from these features dates to the early and late Roman periods (1st to 4th century AD), suggesting the possibility of a sustained period of Roman activity in the are and may relate to similar ditches found during the initial phase of evaluation in 2020. Medieval activity is represented by the presence of ridge and furrow cultivation exposed across the site. Numerous undated features were apparent across the evaluated area, one of which produced a late Mesolithic/early Neolithic flint arrowhead which may of may not be residual. Modern field boundaries were also present.
