Description

The trial trenching revealed a single linear feature in Trench 4, with the three remaining trenches being devoid of finds or features. A linear feature recorded in Trench 8 of the previous evaluation was not apparent in Trench 1, which was positioned to determine if it continued into the site. Roman features were recorded in the southeastern part of the site, in Trench 7 of the preceding works Two ditches ran broadly north – south, possibly defining a former trackway. The westernmost ditch, [702], was of similar dimensions to that in Trench 4, and contained a small assemblage of Roman pottery, and is likely to represent the same feature. The eastern ditch in Trench 7 was smaller, but there was no evidence for this feature on Trench 4 of the current works.
