Abstract/Summary
Landmark Planning commissioned Allen Archaeology Limited to undertake an archaeological evaluation by trial trenching on land off Station Road, Long Buckby, Northamptonshire, to support a forthcoming planning application for a residential development. The site is in an area of some archaeological potential; prehistoric and Roman activity has been recorded in several area, including during trial trenching immediately to the south and extending in to the current site. Evidence for later activity in the vicinity of the site is limited, with ridge and furrow being located to the south; indicating that the site was and has remained within agriculture until the present day. Four trenches were excavated across the proposed development area, each measuring 20m in length and 1.80m wide. A single linear feature was recorded in Trench 4, producing Roman and prehistoric pottery, and likely corresponding with a ditch recorded in Trench 7 of the previous works, in the southeast part of the site. The evidence suggests a negligible potential for activity across much of the site, but with potential for Roman activity in the eastern part of the proposed development area.
